Regional Minister on working visit to Portugal

Press release no. 162

Tomorrow, 25 October, Regional Minister Jaan Õunapuu will be travelling to Lisbon to participate in the European Conference of Ministers responsible for Regional Planning (CEMAT).

At the conference the ministers will be signing their names to the standpoints that form the basis for the guiding principles of spatial development. The ministers will be adopting a resolution supporting regional spatial development and decentralised management that relies on local centres. Raising the global competitive abilities of all of Europe's regions is seen as a vital area of activity.

CEMAT is held every three years. Alongside the member states of the European Union, the Balkan countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States also belong to CEMAT.

Minister Õunapuu will be accompanied on his trip by Einike Uri, the Deputy Secretary-General for Population and Regional Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior.
