Kalle Laanet becomes president of European department of FBI Academy

Interior Minister Kalle Laanet is to be sworn is as the president of the European department of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Academy at its next in-service training conference. From 18 to 20 September Minister Laanet will be taking part in the FBI Academy's in-service training conference in Amsterdam to exchange thoughts on matters related to contemporary police work and national security. As the conference draws to a close the Minister is to be sworn in as the president of the European Department of the FBI Academy, whose responsibilities include the organisation of the Academy's 25th anniversary conference, to be held in Tallinn next year. "It is a great honour that the organisation of the next and indeed anniversary conference has been bestowed upon Estonia," said Minister Laanet. "It will be the first of the Academy's training sessions to take place in Eastern Europe." The FBI Academy's 25th anniversary in-service training conference will be held from 17 to 19 September 2007 in Tallinn. The post of president of the European department of the FBI Academy is held for one year and its responsibilities include the organisation of next year's conference. Laanet will take on these responsibilities from 20 September 2006 and hold the presidency until the end of the 2007 conference. The president is chosen from among FBI Academy alumni in the country where the following conference is to take place. The president of the department this year was Dutch alumni Hanneke Brouwer. |
